Inspiration: Richard Rutt Knitting Book Collection

Zoe W let me know about this really interesting collection of old knitting and craft books that have been digitised and are free to view online.  I was going to try a pattern from one of the books to tell you about, but I couldn’t find anything I actually wanted to make, but looking at the books is fun.

Richard Rutt wrote a book on the history of knitting for which he amassed a collection of materials about knitting. A selection of 19th century manuals from his collection make up the online collection.

These books are great; some are really interesting particularly in terms of social history and the history of knitted items. Some are really funny when you look at the pictures and consider someone having to wear item made in itchy wool yarns!

This is one of my favourites, the cover is so pretty.
