It is very useful when you need help figuring out a particular technique, for example, sewing in a zip, or altering a pattern to make it fit better. The processes are illustrated with really clear photos.

Is the book suitable for novices?

Yes, it would be very useful to someone starting to learn to sew.

This book doesn’t have projects, it is just lots of techniques.

Did this book improve your skill set?

Very much, and it keeps doing so.

Did this book inspire you to create your own designs?

It certainly helps if I want to do something, but am not sure how.
