Here’s a suggestion for a nice day out this weekend: the annual Festival of Quilts at the NEC, Birmingham. It runs this year from 19-22 August (that’s Thursday until Sunday) and is full of inspiration for crafters in general. The main attraction is, of course, the big quilt exhibition, which always features works of truly mind-boggling creativity (hand-dying your fabric anyone?). If you can keep your feelings of inadequacy in check then you’re bound to come away with lots of new ideas for your own projects. There are also lots of workshops and seminars from the practical to the more arcane, and of course, lots and lots of stalls selling every sewing-related piece of equipment you could imagine. Patchworkers will be ideally catered for, but anyone interested in sewing will find lots to covet too.
Tickets (£11 in advance) can be bought here.
